Day 16! Mocha did some recall practice and muzzle conditioning. Oakley had some crate training and will later be doing recall work and muzzle conditioning.
I found my long line that I previously thought my ex threw out! I put some knots in it, in case of an emergency where I needed to reel her in. We also hooked up her regular leash for me to grab after reeling her in. It wasn't needed, but we like to be prepared. 💪🏻 We also are using her muzzle when doing recall work outside. I don't anticipate having an issue, but the fact is, I have a reactive dog who has an imperfect recall, and my neighbors let their dog out off-leash and 100% unsupervised. (He actually tried to say hello to Mocha today, and Oakley yesterday, by coming up to our patio door. That was fun!) I cooked up some cheesy eggs as a reward, and she was very happy to come to me for them. 99% of her diet is kibble, so we're going to continue only using treats (eggs, meat, whatever) for her recall until I'm confident in it.
I took a few quick videos, but we had so many successful recalls! I did have to provide some slight leash guidance the first time I tried to call her off dog pee, but the second time she rocked it. She also successfully was recalled off dogs barking (see the last video where she comes back immediately after hearing a bark, before I can ask!), dog pee, dog poop, loud cars, people talking, and other good sniffs and distractions.
