Update on the 4th of our “San Diego 6”: We didn’t realize we were getting the opportunity to rescue Buddy so we did not have a plan in place for him. Luckily, around the same time he was impounded, we received a few messages from a previous adopter, Jessica. Jessica and her family adopted Rufus from us last year and were looking for a playmate for him (Rufus loves his shi Tzu sister Gemma but she’s more of a “hang out and watch the world go by” kind of girl). We thought it might be a perfect match for them to foster-to-adopt Buddy.
Jessica’s initial impression of Buddy was one of a little bit of concern: Buddy was extremely skinny, had pressure sores, and she could see that his spirit was a bit broken. It took a long time to get him to come into the house his first night.
However, a few days in, Jessica reported that Buddy was definitely doing his best to trust the family. He’s was learning how to play; he starts to do this playful prance then just stops and stands there. He did great on his first walk and he really seemed to like the car. And Rufus is such a great help - by Wednesday, they finally had their first play session!
Since we weren’t told his birthday, Buddy’s family is using the day they picked him up (02/14 ❤️). Jessica writes us: “It warms my heart to see Buddy’s sweet personality come out more and more. When he first got here he was so scared of his blanket I gave him, now when he gets in his bed he tries to get under it, he loves his blanket now. Such a reward to get to see a little of him🥰”
